“I decided to go dress shopping for the first time with just my mom. Big decisions can overwhelm me and I can become indecisive, and my wonderful mom knows how to help me regain my focus. I really thought I wanted an illusion neckline, or something with straps, that had a fit and flare silhouette. Trying all the dresses on was such a fun experience, but I wasn’t falling in love with anything I tried on.”
“My mom was sensing my frustration and started combing through the racks herself (exactly like you see on “Say Yes To The Dress”) and pulls out this dress. We were nearing the end of the appointment, and I didn’t want to try any more dresses on, but my mom insisted on this dress.”
"They say a mother’s intuition is never wrong, and in this case, she was not. It just felt right! The rest of the process was so easy – the dress fit perfectly, needed minimal alterations and was everything I hoped it would be on the day of.”
“Matt and I both swam in college at Ohio State, but we were a few years apart and did not cross paths during our time there. Many retired swimmers will give back to the sport upon retirement by coaching with local youth swim teams. Matt and I both were coaching different youth swim teams in the Central Ohio area in the fall of 2010.”
“At the time, I was also nannying for a family with a young swimmer who was a part of Matt’s team. We were at a swim meet one weekend and the 8-year-old I babysat kept asking if she could introduce me to her swim coach. She had been talking about him non-stop for a couple of weeks and kept telling me how much she thought I would like him. I finally agreed and met Matt. I saw him at other swim meets throughout the fall and we went on our first date that December.”
"We got engaged in August 2016 at a local metro park. It was a Sunday and that morning at breakfast, Matt asked if I wanted to go on a hike. It was really crowded at the metro park, and we had some trouble finding a place to park the car, which was really stressing Matt out (at the time, I didn’t understand why).”
“Once we found a spot, we began walking a trail that had a dead end overlooking a wetland. I was taking in the scenery when Matt put his hand right in front of my face – he had the engagement ring on his finger. I was so surprised and of course said yes. It was perfect because it was just the two of us, in a beautiful spot, ready to start our next adventure.”
“I loved the final 15 minutes before walking down the aisle. All my absolute favorite people (the bridal party, my parents and in-laws) were all together in this cool space, playing pool, chatting and enjoying time together. All the dress leading up to ‘the big day’ was gone and everyone was excited and ready to have a good time.”
“Keep in mind that the day is ultimately about you and your partner – you do you! You will get a lot of advice (some solicited, some not) along the way, so just take a deep breath and stay true to your wishes for the day. It is a celebration of your love and all your family and friends are so excited to be a part of it. I would totally do the whole thing over again – the day, the planning, all of it!”
